Wait, nevermind. My roommate's boyfriend just, I mean, factually just showed up with... honest to god moonshine that he got from a contractor he works with.

I've never had moonshine in my life. We just did a shot. And, it's interesting. It's got to be at least 90 proof. It burns everything. At first I thought it would be tasteless like everclear. But, in fact it's got a body to it it. Kind of a sweet, almost fruit/grain taste. Well, not necessarily fruit. BUT I bet he used some kind of refined beet or potato sugar. Here's a picture.

...hmm kind of looks like a picture of a jar full of water. But I swear to you, that water is on fire.

OK, so I added a shot with some sweet tea, as recommended by the seller to the purchaser, and now it just kind of takes like alcoholic, chlorinated pool water. Really strong chlorine smell. That's kind of not appetizing.
Anyway, anyone else ever had moonshine? It was on my random things to taste before I die list.
Here's a picture of a cat on a bicycle.

Yeah, I've had moonshine a few times. The tastiest was some sort of variant made with apples from a recipe a few generations old.

My grandpa spent some time in prison for moonshining back in the days of Prohibition.

I too have sampled moonshine before. However immediately upon tasting it I ran out and spit it into the gas tank of my car. Later that night while driving home I'm almost 75% sure my car actually levitated.

Couple of times. We made gin once, it was drinkable I guess. We would normally distill it twice, that gets rid of almost all flavor, takes it to about 95% then you can dilute and flavor however you like. Hey, I DID use my chem eng degree for something! Cool.

For some reason, I don't think I'd trust a distiller who did not have a chemical engineering degree.

tho I didn't do a background check on this fellow.

Well, I was only in 3rd year, and I'm not blind. We did ask a TA to check our "work", to be on the safe side.

I had some moonshine at the wedding of a friend. It had been aged in a barrel since he was born so it was a smooth burn. The recipe was a family secret. My pal had not yet reached the rite of passage where his dad passed on the recipe and location of the still. Seriously.

Brandon, what did you think of Women?
brandon [email] said at 5:50 PM 11-14-2008:
I love the production that Chad Vangaalen brings to it. I love Chad Vangaalen period.
I like the big fuzzed out beats and rhythms.
I like the mathy guitar melodies.
Some of the harmonies remind me of the Mamas and the Papas, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Toward the end, some of the tracks have huge distorted sounds that I generally ff through. But, in general, I think this is a very strong album.
reggie [email] said at 11:29 PM 11-14-2008:
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised. I also agree about the last coupla tracks. I hope I get a chance to see these blokes live.
art [email] said at 10:36 AM 11-14-2008:
Moonshine - yes. Tastes like rubbing alcohol. In NH at the state liquor stores they sell 190 proof grain alcohol, but you have to ask for it, it's not on the shelf
brandon [email] said at 5:56 PM 11-14-2008:
I put the one picture they let me take up in my journal. Bon appetit.
