chromeo last night.

dave 1 of chromeo @ sonar

pee thug of chromeo @ sonar

actually still tonight for me, but you are probably reading this tomorrow... since tomorrow doesn't start til you go to sleep.

i was only familiar with "the hits" but these guys were great, the crowd loved them... a suprisingly stoked crowd for a sunday in baltimore, they basically made chromeo do like 4 encores... then demanded they sign shirts, cds, breasts, foreheads.

good times. more pictures tomorrow/soon.

We played their CD at work the other day and immediately demanded it be turned off.

to me they sounded like a prince cover band with a vocoder... but not really in a bad way. fun live, but i have no idea if i'd like it on CD though.
reggie [email] said at 10:08 AM 07-09-2007:
I could imagine it working live for sure. It was annoying on CD though.
abby [email] said at 10:43 AM 07-09-2007:
what does "basically" mean here
josh [email] said at 10:47 AM 07-09-2007:
well they didn't physically force them... but they kept yelling every time they stopped, so chromeo kept coming back to play more songs.
abby [email] said at 10:51 AM 07-09-2007:
      hmm.. i dunno.
josh [email] said at 10:56 AM 07-09-2007:
        what do you dunno?!
abby [email] said at 10:59 AM 07-09-2007:
im just not sure if that is the best way that thought could have been phrased.

            i understood what he meant.

              for what it's worth
abby [email] said at 11:21 AM 07-09-2007:
really? i mean you can guess that they played four encores, but you get very little out of "basically made."
woody [email] said at 3:47 PM 07-09-2007:
For what it's worth, when I read "basically made" I took it to mean "strongly encouraged". But this meaning of basically gets a lot of usage where I'm from. Never heard of anybody not getting the meaning.
abby [email] said at 4:03 PM 07-09-2007:
its a crappy way of saying "strongly encouraged," because they don't mean the same thing at all, and due to the nebulous and lost meaning of the word "basically," it can be read a couple different ways.
abby [email] said at 11:07 AM 07-09-2007:
my problem is that between "basically" and "like," and followed by such an active verb as "demanded," it becomes very passive.
reggie [email] said at 11:49 AM 07-09-2007:
I think what he was saying that the crowd was so enthusiastic that Chromeo felt obliged to return four times to perform. As opposed to the crowd threatening a bloody revolt if Chromeo didn't return to perform again.
josh [email] said at 12:11 PM 07-09-2007:
they basically made (meaning they didn't REALLY force them, but they strongly encouraged and requested) them perform encores. the number of encores they performed were like 4 (meaning it may not have been 4, perhaps it was 3, or less likely, 5)
abby [email] said at 12:32 PM 07-09-2007:
thats not what basically means. basically doesnt mean vaguely, or "around," it means that, if youre applying it to the number of encores, the essential core value of the encores would be numbered at four.

                its a pretty misused word
abby [email] said at 12:35 PM 07-09-2007:
oh wait youre talking about "like"

well.. look the word is dumb dont use it

basically is used in a totally legit slang way, as is like.
abby [email] said at 1:23 PM 07-09-2007:
theres very little thats legit about the slang usage of basically, its simply an incorrect usage that most people are unaware of. prevalance doesnt make it okay.

you should get more sleep! "basically" is a pretty lazy way of stating anything, it informs me that the event happened at its most rudimentary level, but it doesnt establish any tone.. im only trying to help you out!
