Marie Antoinette - Liked this a whole lot more than I normally do these types of flicks (cough-chickflicks-cough.) I actually really enjoyed this movie, part of it had to do with the gang of gay men that were sitting in the back row of the theater snapping their fingers and "you go girl"ing through the whole movie. But I liked the way Sofia used contemporary music for the score. The cinematography was quite stunning and somehow the film was a nice thematic companion piece to Coppola's own Lost in Translation.
Grade: B+
The Science of Sleep - This movie was nice, the visuals were pretty amazing but it's stuff Gondry can do in his sleep. No pun intended. The writing was a little weak and it made what could have been another great movie merely a solid one.
Grade: C+
The Prestige - Got dang, Christopher Nolan knocks another one out of the park. This was one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen a while. Even though I figured out the twist (for the most part) about halfway through the movie was so well made that I stayed hooked til the end. Nolan seems to have an uncanny knack for casting (David Bowie as Nichola? Tesla) and I don't care how wrong he feels for the part, I'll trust that Heath Ledger will work out as the Joker.
Grade: A+
Also. I really like the Charles theater as I spent pretty much the whole day there on Sunday. I went to the Senator to see The Departed and while it's not quite the Uptown, it's still a beautiful theater. Though Josh was right (duh) when he told me the sound left a lot to be desired.
