Chaos and Creation in Baltimore

Hey people, what's goin' on? I ain't on here as much 'cuz since I moved I don't have regular internet access. Bein' in Baltimore's been pretty cool. Still trying to figure things out...mainly like where to eat late (thanks Josh.)

I like my apartment, I'm the only tenant in the building who doesn't have a dog. I live right across the street from a hospital so there are constantly sirens blaring by which is absolutely fine by me. Oddly enough I find the sounds of the city chaotically soothing (if that makes sense.) When I was living with my folks after moving out of DC and moving to B-more I never felt comfortable with the quiet and peaceful surroundings of the 'burbs.

The primary reason I wanted my own place because I thought being alone would give me the freedom I need to be more creative. So far it has. I've really been able to concentrate on the script/film idea I've been working on for the past few months. What I like to do is pace around my living quarters and dictate (to myself) the plot points, themes and character traits I come up with. My neighbors may think I'm crazy but so what? The guy that lived in the apartment before me was a chain-smoking painter so I figure I'm a bit of an upgrade (No joke: when I first saw the apartment you could see where the smoke had stained the walls and cigarette butts littered the deck.)

Haven't done too much hanging out yet outside of visits to the Brewer's Art on back to back weekends. It ain't the Brickskeller but it will do. I haven't been to Ottobar or really anywhere else. (I only recently even located the Ottobar las week.) Josh pointed out the Paper Moon Cafe to me and I think I will be frequenting there. Ben introduced me to the Sip and Bite, a dive that's probably cooler than it should be. It's weird, Charles Village is nice but the place literally shuts down at about 11 at night and doesn't really get going til about 11 in the morning either, not really good traits for someone who is both a night person AND a morning person like I am even the Papa John's down the street closes at 10!

Odd, I haven't really missed the internet as much as I thought I would. I miss it for information gathering purposes but that's about it mainly 'cuz I've been so productive and I've been watching more DVDs than I normally do. I've even been reading! In the past the only reading I did was whenever I was on the go or on the john but sometimes I just lay down on my bed, throw on some music and actually read stuff.

Well that's what's up Killoggs. See ya next week!

Oh yeah! I almost forgot! They finally decided to place me in the Charles Village branch of Record & Tape Traders so I now live within walking distance of where I work. So no more Glen Burnie, Dundalk or Towson for me!

    That's great news!

But mainly I was looking for your post on the death of Tower Records. What gives?
reggie [email] said at 6:08 PM 10-15-2006:
Oh I knew that was coming. I'd heard about Tower going bankrupt a couple of weeks before I left that other place.

What gives? Two words: "i" and "tunes."

I feel good that I'm at a little indie record store chain that's thirty years old and Tower's gone belly up.
rick [email] said at 6:12 PM 10-15-2006:
Most major record store chains are going the way the dodo bird, thanks to the Internet. I do plan though on going to the Tower on Mass. Ave. and Newbury St. and seeing if there are any good deals to be had sometime in the next few months.
reggie [email] said at 6:50 PM 10-15-2006:
The thing I don't understand is why stores aren't incorporating the trend into their plans. I don't know if it would work but it seems to me like it would be in the industry's best interest if customers could download music from the same place they might buy an actual CD.

My company stays in business mainly because we buy and sell used CDs.

i doubt it's itunes as much as just file sharing in general.

though itunes hurts also, i guess, because it means the smaller pool of people that are willing to pay for music is being further shrunk by itunes.
reggie [email] said at 2:34 AM 10-16-2006:
Although Tower was never really a part of my life. I can count on one hand the number of CD's I've bought from Tower in my life. The last one was Radiohead's Hail to the Thief. Otherwise I couldn't possibly care less.

I've got tons of chili so if you want to come to my place and eat some tonight, let me know.
abby [email] said at 11:29 AM 10-16-2006:
i just got your message about this chili. did you like, put some in the freezer?
boson [email] said at 6:11 PM 10-15-2006:
why no club charles
reggie [email] said at 6:43 PM 10-15-2006:
Because I don't know where anything is. (Although I do know where that is NOW cuz I went to the Charles Theater today.)
kara [email] said at 12:42 AM 10-16-2006:
The Paper Moon kinda sucks although I like their nachos.
I agree with this wholeheartedly:
I find the sounds of the city chaotically soothing (if that makes sense.) When I was living with my folks after moving out of DC and moving to B-more I never felt comfortable with the quiet and peaceful surroundings of the 'burbs.

The Club Charles has gotten too expensive.

Everything here closes down at like 11, it's the worst thing about this city.
reggie [email] said at 2:21 AM 10-16-2006:
I liked Paper Moon. Granted it was my first time and really I was just happy to be able to eat past eleven o'clock. While I was there this foursome of goth-types appeared in the doorway almost like magic. I look down to pancakes, look back up and next thing you know the four horsemen of the apocalypse are asking for a table.

As for the noise pollution I can't explain it. The crickets and frogs in the woods near my parents are annoying but a siren screaming past at three in the morning is peaceful. Just a reminder that life goes on with or without your participation.
boson [email] said at 3:54 PM 10-16-2006:
I still havent found a place that could replace club charles for me.
josh [email] said at 12:45 AM 10-16-2006:
there are a lot of places to GET food late, but most of them are carryout only like oriole pizza or the various indian + america food delivery places.
carla [email] said at 3:34 PM 10-16-2006:
Reggie: please don't forget about my pancake recommendation!!

Also, have you been to Blue Moon cafe yet??
