I went in and was able to view the people smashing my mirror, the passengers getting out to look, then getting back in the car and speeding away. The other thing is there was a truck that pulled in immediately and was able to see the broken glass, so well in fact that they parted on the far end of the space, to avoid running over that glass with their tires. Any way, his truck had his name on it, and he was paged, and told the manager that he had not seen any thing. The manager was less than helpful. He was embarrassed that I was asking around to see if someone had witnessed what happened. They do not give out the tapes unless they are subpoenaed. They also destroy them after 30 days, so let's see, how many of those tapes have the released. I would guess...0. The only thing that was good is they looked like they had a much better car and I hope it cost them a lot to fix any damage they might have had.

A drunken/stoned hippie smashed the rear bumper of Tyler's new-used truck the day after Tyler bought it. It was a hit-and-run, and there was a witness and he and Tyler got the license plate #, but Oshkosh's court system is lame and we can't get any money from him.
Apparently, the driver that hit Tyler's car has no license/registration/insurance due to many past OWIs, and though he didn't show up to his court date (which Tyler had to take time off of work to go to) the only way he can be forced to come to court is if he is caught doing some sort of illegal activity again (despite the fact that the court system knows where he "lives"). This whole scenario makes me want to pull a "Death Wish." I mean A)the dude's own mother told the police that he has a truck that she gave him B)he hit Tyler's parked truck and ran when Tyler insisted that they call the police C)he isn't even supposed to HAVE a truck or DRIVE it D)he's a vagrant hippie motherfucker with a DEATH MACHINE.
Of course, when this man eventually plows down a child at a school crossing, everyone will go apeshit and lobby to change the OWI laws.

myriam said at 8:40 AM 03-12-2004: my uncle's truck was totaled when an illegal alien driving another truck ran a red and smashed into it. being an illegal alien, he had no insurance or license. also being an illegal alien, when my uncle went to court to try to get repair money out of this guy, he was told that because the man was not lawfully in this country they could not ask him to appear before the court. when my uncle asked them why they couldn't bring him into court or at least deport him since they have his name and address and apparently know full well that he is in illegal alien, he was told there was nothing they could do about it, because the court was a state court and only INS has the authority to do anything with illegal aliens. INS is a federal service and apparently does not have any communication or ties with the state court system. so the illegal alien continues to live in california, happily smashing into things to his heart's content, driving with no license or insurance, and those he hits (and hurts) are forced to suffer all the consequences with no recourse.
milky [email] said at 10:19 AM 03-12-2004: I was travelling in Fresno with my family in 1990. A car full of illegals ran a red light. To correct this, they drove backwards about half a block through a busy intersection, hitting the van we were travelling in. The cop shows up. They have no papers, no insurance, don't speak any English. The cop had this disgusted look on his face. It was a nice side impact to the van. Driving backwards. I didn't have time to write it down in here before I got to work. The officer had to bring in a translator. The occupants of the other vehicle were oblivious; they could have cared less.

anotherben.. said at 9:19 AM 03-10-2004: when racing kiche to the train station once because his lazy ass hadnt learned the train schedule i made a deft maneuver to avoid being run over by a garbage truck. we survived the truck, but my passenger side mirror cracked the tail-light cover of a stratus parked on the side of the road. i left my number and continued on to the train station. when i returned from the train station..the car was gone. the next day a woman called and skeptically asked if i was the person who hit her car. in the meantime i had looked up the cost of a replacement tail light cover. i think it was $47.50. she wanted $800. i gave her my insurance info. my insurance rate stayed the same. then in 2002 my car was destroyed by an old woman who ran a stop sign into a 4-lane highway. seemed pretty cut and dry. her insurance company showed up the next day and cut me a check for a little more than the value of my old car (which had finally been paid off the month before). bought a new subaru and unbeknownst to me while i was happily driving around, my insurance company and the old ladies insurance company were in "arbitration". that word all by itself sucks. it sucks even more when the "arbitrator" decides you are 20% at fault for an old lady running a stop sign into the middle of a 4-lane highway. still..my insurance didnt go up. then i moved to louisiana. my insurance doubled. louisiana doesnt recognize percentage at-faults. you either are at fault or are not. so, this triggers my ny wreck to raise my insurance in la. i tried to switch insurance companies.. and the mirror-to-the-tail-light incident showed up as an at-fault on my record such that my doubleed new york rate was still the cheapest option. sigh.

I finally had a nice car, had it about a month and it got stolen. of course it was in a hit and run, and today I have to go to traffic court to get teh miryad of tickets it received while stolen taken care of. somtimes I think cars are more trouble than they are worth, sort of like boys.
