what Firefox extensions do you use?

There are so many firefox extensions out there already, and every time I think to look at the list there are 100s more, many of which sound pretty cool.

I use (on this PC at work)

  • BugMeNot - allows me to automagically login to sites like New York Times using a login someone else made and submitted to the BugMeNot database
  • Copy Plain Text - lets me copy text from a web page without the formatting
  • Linkchecker - checks a page and highlights bad links
  • Copy Image - lets me copy images directly to the clipboard
  • Antipagination - takes news storiies that are broken up into multiple pages and smooshes them all into one page
  • Adblock - blocks ads
  • Adblock Updater - downloads new ad profiles automatically. I rarely see ads.
  • Greasemonkey - a multi-extension which you can add various scripts into to do different things - awesome.
  • Google Send To Phone - send a text message from the browser. even lets you highlight text and send that
  • Blogger Web Comments - lets you see what bloggers are saying about a page
  • DownThemAll! - quick downloads of groups of files

I also have a few web nerd specific extensions:

  • DOM Inspector
  • Aardvark - lets you remove elements from a page and see what it would look like, as well as other things (this doesn't work with the newest firefox yet)
  • HTML validator - what it sounds like
  • Lynx Viewer - shows what a page would look like in Lynx (or to screen reader software)

You can find all of these at this page. Which ones do you use?

Oh, at home I also use Linkify, which converts typed-out but not hyperlinked URLs and Emails into links. I should install that here, too.

I use all of those except for the nerd plug-ins and the antipagination. I also still use Abe Vigoda's status checker.

bugmenot extension! the last time i wanted this it didnt work for the most recent version of firefox and i forgot about it

i need antipagination i hate that shit

in addition to most of those, i also have:

  • download manager tweak - looks nicer and adds the very handy 'open folder' button
  • linkification - allows double-clicking of non-hyperlinked URLs to open up into new window, current window, new tab, wahtever you want.
  • miniT - drag tabs to reorder them how you want. i do this constantly.
  • IE view - opens links into IE
  • nuke anything - remove any block or area from screen, mostly useful for huge text strings that break pages and cause horizontal scroll bars
  • image zoom - just what it says, great for fitting oversized pictures into your screen
  • tabbed browser prefs - opens up more options for tabbed browsing - essential
    • josh [email] said at 5:34 PM 05-11-2006:
oh yeah, linkification is what it's called, not linkify.

im definitely gonna check out IE View and the tabbed browsing one. Nuke Anything sounds liek aardvark, but aardvark does other stuff too. i wish they would update that.

i was playing with a lot of those the other night.

a lot of people seem to like this clipmarks thing. it's pretty cool. i installed it a while back, but i can't say i've used it that much...

I just use mozilla, trying to keep my memory free.

Whoa. I don't use any firefox extensions. Why is everyone more advanced than I am? I alternate among different browsers depending on which one is loading too slow and pissing me off that day. I can't find one that even works well enough for me to want to add hair extensions to it.

I use nerd patrol, nerderator, PHPnerd and porNERD.

not a firefox extension, but really cool: http://sketchup.google.com/

I use some of the abovementioned, but one I haven't seen anyone else using is FlashBlock. It prevents any Flash content from loading and just leaves an empty box where it would be. You can click on the box if you actually want the flash to load. It makes browsing much less annoying overall.

josh what are the actual names of the bugmenot and antipagination extensions? im not finding either
josh [email] said at 10:25 PM 07-17-2006:
i just installed "coogle" which automatically color codes google search terms, and videodownloader, which lets you download from youtube, etc.

also image toolbar, which is like an enhanced copy image.
josh [email] said at 6:21 PM 01-22-2007:
this post was useful to me just now. i also installed "download statusbar", because it sounded interesting/useful.
josh [email] said at 6:23 PM 01-22-2007:
also "sessionmanager" i sone i've been using alot. if your firefox crashes or you accidentally close it, next time it asks you if you want to reopen all your old tabs/windows.
kara [email] said at 8:15 PM 01-22-2007:
Christian: Did you ever see Batchdownloader?
Would have been useful for the frogs
kara [email] said at 8:17 PM 01-22-2007:
I just added an extension to edit cookies... I have been annoyed by the inability to do this. I never think to look for extensions.
josh [email] said at 8:18 PM 01-22-2007:
      edit them how?
kara [email] said at 8:33 PM 01-22-2007:
I have so much insane security stuff.. well not really.. but I cleared my cookies the other day so I could re-choose which ones to allow, and now it logs me out of things like last.fm and oink every session.
oink especially annoying due to the captcha or whatever
josh [email] said at 8:49 PM 01-22-2007:
oh sweet. you know you can set your security/prvacy to high and then whitelist certain sites... just go under tools / options / privacy or security
kara [email] said at 8:52 PM 01-22-2007:
yeah I know, I had them allowed but for some reason it wouldnt log me in the way it used to.
