A rebours

CNet likes the Creative Zen Micro MP3 player almost as much as the iPod. Does anyone have one of these?
After a year and a half of battery decline and trying all diagnostics, my iPod has bought the farm. I know this has happened to other people. Ocassionally, I like to spend money on things that work for more than a year and a half, despite what the gods of marketing tell me to do.
Secondarily, remember Genevieve Jones from Baton Rouge? In case you haven't noticed, she is the new "it girl" in the fashion and arts world. I have already run into pages of photos of her in the NYTimes, The New York magazine, and Vogue. Here's an example from style . The last time I saw her, she was at the Mermaid Lounge with some guy named Huckleberry.

That was about the lifespan of my iPOD. It's a paperweight now...piece of disposable shite. I've had walkmans last longer.

If the marketers don't know who we are, how can we ever know? At first the marketing was implied, " I can afford this", then the marketing became a silhouette, "I am every person", now it is, "I have a paperweight".

I have a 3-4 year-old Creative Zen Jukebox (20GB, USB 2.0) player that's as good as new.

I don't know anything about their later models, but this one has been a workhorse.

Also, Creative's interface is more annoying/intrusive than the iPod interface, if that can even be remotely believed. So there are tradeoffs, regardless.

my ipod rules! no problems yet. i guess ive only had it like 8 months though.

you can get your battery replaced for like $50 i think

if you want one that will last forever, get a flash-based player... you can get a 4 or even 8 gig one for fairly cheap...

    Thanks, I'll look into that.

They make some nice looking players. I've read and heard so many complaints about iPod battery life. The interface and other things aren't really a big deal.

i've have a zen xtra for the past two years dropped it like 6 or 7 times & its still going strong. just has dent in it & the face is on the scratched side & the wheel to navigate songs is easier i think. my issue with the zen though is that it doesnt have a lot of the accessory ease that ipod has. ie speaker systems without a bunch of wires & covers etc not really that big a deal but its irritating. + it looks like creative just dropped the xtra. i was looking for a replacement charger & couldn't find one or any other accessory for the xtra on the creative website vs ipod which has accessories & replacement parts coming out of its lily white ass

I too have a Creative Zen Xtra (like Melissa.) It's 30gb, I've dropped it a lot more than 6 or 7 times (more like 6 or 7 times a month) and it's still rockin' and rollin'.

As for the accessories thing, Melissa is right about that. I mean there are some accessories that are pretty generic and would work with anything. But most companies are designing their accessories strictly around the friggin iPod.

I think my next purchase will be another Creative product.
