I am not going to fight you anymore, coffee. I am weak, you are strong. You are free, the office is perpetually freezing.
No longer will I limit myself to just one cup in the mornings except for those 'really bad days'. I've decided that you don't add too much to my caloric intake, and in fact, many studies say that you may actually increase my metabolism.
Although I am still thinking that you are bad for my teeth. However, with my current dental plan, I can get them cleaned every six months now.
So no more fighting. No more avoiding. No more protesting against you, coffee.
brad [email] said at 4:07 PM 10-21-2008: Because of a GI problem I have, I probably should never drink coffee again. But god, I miss it. I've been drinking black tea instead, but it's just not the same.
carla [email] said at 4:21 PM 10-21-2008: once i let coffee win and stopped fighting the fight, life got better. (writing this as i drink my 4 o'clock coffee)
rick [email] said at 7:14 PM 10-21-2008: True, but as far as caffeine delivery systems go, coffee is far more benign than say most soft drinks or "energy drinks" (although it should be noted that coffee has more caffeine than most soft drinks and energy drinks).
meredith [email] said at 9:27 AM 10-22-2008: Yeah, I thought about that, but currently I can still get through the weekend without having coffee and no headaches. I actually forget about coffee when I get to sleep in.
julie [email] said at 10:46 PM 10-22-2008: Do your parents drink coffee? Mine don't and never have, and I think that's partly why I never developed a taste for it. None of my (many) siblings drinks it either, come to think of it.
meredith [email] said at 9:23 AM 10-23-2008: My mom doesn't. My dad started because his friends got together and drank it. I started after working at Starbucks. My dad and I both drink our coffee with enormous amounts of additives.
rick [email] said at 7:13 PM 10-21-2008: As long as you are light with the sugar and cream, there is very little fret about with coffee. So drink up. And if you don't, that is alright; I'll pour some French roast on the curb, for my coffee-eschewing homey.
meredith [email] said at 9:26 AM 10-22-2008: I use 3 packets of Equal or Splenda and tons of creamer. But I've been told that powdered shit doesn't add much in the way of calories anyway.
brandonA [email] said at 7:57 PM 10-21-2008: In the past 6 years I've quit smoking, started exercising, and plan to eat a lot better, but I'll be goddamned if I ever give up my coffee addiction.
(Typed at 5pm while sipping my 4th or 5th cup of the day)
meredith [email] said at 9:25 AM 10-22-2008: Because of the excess floride condition of my teeth and things that have been done to them to combat that, my enamel is very thin and the Whitestrips extremely painful.
john [email] said at 11:25 PM 10-21-2008: I recently had a physical and I asked my doctor if it was bad that I was drinking 3 to 4 cups per day and he said "that's nothing! You should see how much coffee we drank in med school!" So, I took that to mean that there was nothing wrong with my 3 to 4 cups per day. Coffee brings joy to my life and keeps me focused. It's something to look forward to when getting out of bed. I don't think that coffee has ever killed anyone like cigarettes or alcohol, so why stop if it makes life so much more enjoyable? My grandparents lived for their afternoon coffee chats. I can't imagine growing old without enjoying coffee. Drink up Meredith!
brandon [email] said at 11:47 PM 10-21-2008: Fuck yeah, some of my earliest memories, I only retain because of the smell of coffee. Cigarettes, too, unfortunately. But, you know, nothing takes you back to a moment more than smells. And that's why any girl who steps foot in my house tends to leave with her socks suspiciously missing.
anthony [email] said at 11:02 AM 10-22-2008: This sounds like the making of someone who's going to take powdered coffee and cut lines of it for consumption, foregoing any saturation with hot water.
meredith [email] said at 11:06 AM 10-22-2008: Nah. I don't like the taste of the beans themselves. And I very much enjoy the experience of sipping a warm, tasty beverage.
anthony [email] said at 12:41 AM 10-22-2008: I have a slight stain on one tooth that gets cleaned every 6 months. I like to think it gives me even more character than the overflowing bevy I already possess.
amanda [email] said at 4:57 AM 10-22-2008: I do not understand the coffee lust at all. It's not that I don't enjoy it; it's that I don't crave it and never have. I drank it for about two years and had enough gastrointestinal problems that I quit and I've very rarely wanted a cup of coffee ever since. I prefer tea and if I do drink coffee nowadays, it's mainly for caffeine content.
julie [email] said at 10:41 PM 10-22-2008: I'm in the Amanda camp. If it's what everyone else is having, I can drink it, but I prefer tea. Coffee often gives me the shakes. The thought of it first thing in the morning is just dreadful, it's too strong. I guess I need a more gentle wake-up drink. I am not a morning person.
meredith [email] said at 9:24 AM 10-23-2008: The caffeine is GREAT! I didn't always drink coffee. When I lived in England I didn't drink coffee or tea. They didn't know what to do with me. They had nothing they could offer me when I came over. My friend Julie was so ecstatic when she met me in France this year to find out that I drink coffee now.
meredith [email] said at 12:04 PM 10-23-2008: I'm having more coffee. I've totally fallen hard. Although I ordered a space heater for my desk this week. I wonder if when it comes in I will stop drinking as much coffee. (I also badly bruised my finger on the nerve, which makes it go numb right now when I'm cold, which really bothers me so I am making extra effort to maintain warmth.)
cecil [email] said at 1:53 PM 10-23-2008: Coffee makes me happy. Let me say that again, Coffee makes me happy. Also saying stuff like Joe Biden does makes me happy. When I'm drinking coffee. It's almost more influential than alcohol or pot in that respect--everything is interesting and I start getting ideas that I'm excited about, until the coffee wears off and then I realize they are bad ideas. Probably like how I'll feel about this comment in an hour.
