Land of the Drunken Santas
Saturday night at Fells Point. It was a little cold out, so I guess that was why there weren't as many people running around in the streets, hopping from bar to bar.
There were however, a bunch of off-duty Santa's, hanging out in the bars together. Erica and I walked by one place and there was no less than five Santas sitting at a table. Two parents walked by with their little girl who started jumping up and down exclaiming "Santa!!!".
Some carolers were standing on the corner by the water, and another pack of Santas walked by. Some guy ran up to them screaming "HEY SANTAS!!!". When he got their begrudged attention, he said "we got these singers over here... we need you guys!" They brushed him off, and one of the guys said "sorry mister, Santa needs a beer."
Erica and I went back up to Reptilian, and Artie, one of the new guys, starts hitting on Erica. He always does, calling her names like "dumplin". Artie, like most Baltimore dwellers, ended up here basically by accident. He's going to school, alledgedly for Sociology like Erica. We got into a discussion about "Gender Outlaws", and our vision of an androgenous character shooting guns into the air.
This guy Larry was in Reptilian, talking to himself while he went through every single record in the store. He's at least in his 40's, works some government job, and comes into Reptilian to buy records by bands like The Donnas, The Muffs, and other rock bands with girl singers.
Waiting for the store to close we paged through political zines and made fun of them... Jess started to tell a story about a guy he knows... "There's this Anarchy Kid from Bel Air..."
He only made it tha far before we started making jokes about Gender Outlaw and the Anarchy Kid ride em cowboy whoo wee. "Bel Air Maryland, the Anarchy headquarters of the world haw haw"
By this point Artie had just about talked Erica into going on a date with him on Tuesday. Then his girlfriend walked in to the store.
