Went to check out Particle for their New York debut last night. There was a nice turnout for a Tuesday night at the Knitting Factory on Leonard St., people seemed to be anticipating a great night of music. Particle started out running and not to far into the first set they were churning out high energy electronica funk. By the middle of the second set they hit their groove and everyone in the room was dancing their asses off. Every once and a while they would slow down to trip you out and bring you through a psychedelic space ride but soon would bring you right back that fast paced funk that they are better at.
Drums and bass were distinct and out front setting the pace while the keyboard would set the mood or join the ride. It would have been nice if the guitar was slightly more prominent to match the intensity of the room as it blended a little to subtly.
