This weekend I decided to enable desktop effects on my home computer. I am running Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon and decided to download the compiz plugins.

Here is a shot of the cube and also the water effect. With the cube effect I have four virtual desktops and I can rotate the cube to switch between them.

How do you plan to use your multiple desktops?

    I generally use one for Firefox, one for Gimp, one for Open Office, and one for gaming. With Avant windows navigator, all I have to do is click on the dock icon of the application I want to use and the cube automatically rotates to the correct desktop.

Is there an option to use an 80 year-old wrinkly skin effect instead of a water effect? 'cause that's kinda hot

    There's a snow effect, a fire effect, and confetti, but nor wrinkly skin that I am aware of. The water effect is my favorite.

this is pretty sweet. I unfortunately will be taking a break from the Linux desktop side of things as I just got a macbook. However I plan to repurpose my desktop into some kind of heavy duty server, even though I'm currently running a debian hacked NAS
