Need computer help!

So in the last two weeks both laptops have gone kabluie! Flan spilt root beer on one and the recent hand-me-down I discovered is plagued with uncurable diseases and all of the friggin software and the operation system are not genuine Microsoft.

So, computer one. All but the keyvboard seem to be in working order. The keyboard at first refused to respond now it responds but it is all googly. I read several mentions recently of keyboard cleaning. How exactly do you do that without breaking the keys?

Computer two I am thinking of just wiping clean to get rid of bugs and starting over. Can that actually be done? I have a new legal version of XP and Office to put back on it.

We turned off the cable so I have no television to keep my sanity. I need the internet to start my new online tutoring gig as well. Who can live without a computer anyway? Where would you keep notes? How could you live without Excel?

Any suggestions would be welcome. Computer one is less than a yr old so I'd hate to chuck it. Computer 2 was free so anything goes to try and fix it (or could I just run it in "safe mode" forever?).

Thank you. I would be more than happy to bribe advice with cookies. My oatmeal cinnamon choco chip are mean mean cookie machines.

I've never cleaned a laptop keyboard before, so I have no advice to give, I'm afraid, on that one.

As for #2, I would go to the manufacturer's website and download all relvant drivers for that machine (video and network/modem are the most cruicial for our purposes, but you might as well grab 'em all) and burn those to CD. Also include on the CD, an antivirus program if you don't have one - I recommend Avast Antivirus (freeware, Google for it). Then wipe everything by booting to the XP disc, deleting the existing partition, and creating a new partition in which to do a fresh install. Once you're back among the living, install AV first, then go to Windows Update and get all those goodies. Keep going back (you will have to reboot a couple of times) until it tells you you're up to date. Then install Office and any other software you have. Office Update is also pretty important. Oh, and if you're on DSL/Cable and are without a router between your machine and the modem, you'll save yourself a lot of heartache by dropping 20-30 bucks on a router. And last but not least, install Ad-Aware (freeware, I get it from download.com) and run it once a week or so.

You aren't obligated to bake me cookies, but I wouldn't cry if you did. Haha!

You have to very careful while cleaning the Laptop. Never use any liquid cleaner. Just clean it with dry cloth.

To clean the keyboard, buy a can of electronic cleaner or solvent like This. It should do the job

external keyboards cost like $10 if all else fails on the first one.
