it's THAT important that i know!!

Shauna, Gary Panter is one of my biggest influences (not that that matters- who am I for that matter!). He's a hugely successful painter/illustrator, as well as an under-appreciated cartoonist (though he's still very influential in the art-comics circles). You would most likely know him as the designer of Pee-Wee's Playhouse, or perhaps from his Frank Zappa album covers. He also did one of those old Chili Peppers covers, among other things.

he's also a super nice, humble dude.
josh [email] said at 9:50 PM 09-19-2005:
famous comic artist... why? and why didn't you just google him?
shauna [email] said at 9:55 PM 09-19-2005:
josh, i JUST discovered the "add a quote" thingy and your voting system. killoggs is very classy. you're amazing! you built us a place to live!

oh, and i figured he was some random lurker who got banned or whatever. i thought there might be drama. god knows i can never have enough of that.
jake [email] said at 10:16 PM 09-19-2005:
I just thought his manifesto was riculously apropriate for Killoggs so I added a bunch of passages from it.

Someone linked to it at some point--Zack, I think.
zack [email] said at 2:07 AM 09-20-2005:
yeah, though as i once posted in site news, the fact that you have it all quoted as "-Gary Panter" instead of as being a quote from the Rozz Tox Manifesto annoys me every time I see the quotes. The Manifesto was written by several people.
jake [email] said at 4:23 AM 09-20-2005:
Really? He talks about it here as if it was solely his writing. I googled a little and couldn't find any other authors. But either way, if it bothers you, vote the quotes down and replace 'em! Or nag me and I'll do it.
zack [email] said at 4:40 AM 09-20-2005:
Hmmm... Well, I seem to remember from a TCJ interview or two, including the matt Groening one, that it was a group effort.. BUT my memory may be completely wrong on this, and I don't have the time or energy to go look it up right now.

Still, I do get mildly irked everytime I see it as a quote attributed to him instead of as a quote from a piece of work.. Like, since it's not actually something he wrote or said conversationally, I feel it should have the title in the quotes just for the full context. Otherwise it sounds like he's just this insane retarded dude spouting off rhetoric.
jake [email] said at 4:48 AM 09-20-2005:
I think I thought about that when I put them in, and I felt like the quotes carried more weight with just his name. I also liked the idea that some people might think he really was talking about killoggs.

As an aside, Shauna, as you launch into the whole quoting-craze, please please please think twice before explaining the context of quotes. They're much better when they stand alone.

Yay no context!
zack [email] said at 7:51 AM 09-20-2005:
(except for when you're quoting something and you miss-attribute it!)
jake [email] said at 11:17 PM 09-20-2005:
There is no evidence for this, and there is only 1 S in that word.
zack [email] said at 11:38 PM 09-20-2005:
actually, there is, but i'm too lazy to go look it up (and I'm at work).
zack [email] said at 11:40 PM 09-20-2005:
actually, it's still a stupid way to quote someone, even if he's the only writer (which he may well be)...

BUT if i cared enough I would have allready voted the quotes down.
huddo [email] said at 10:33 AM 09-20-2005:

shauna [email] said at 11:49 AM 09-20-2005:
ok, now i deem this a josh appreciation post. i had my first killoggs dream last night. it was sorta like tron, but with josh.
josh [email] said at 1:13 PM 09-20-2005:
explain more about the dream!
shauna [email] said at 1:30 AM 09-21-2005:
all of my dreams take place in a summer camp, commune, or beach-house-like setting. but this one was like that, plus tron. somehow.
