meredith [email] said at 11:37 AM 02-28-2006: I sent my bosses the following e-mail this morning:
Good morning!
Happy Mardi Gras! I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the Oscars are on Sunday night. Thus, everyone has until Friday afternoon to fill out their Oscar Ballots and have them on the bulletin board. Paul went ahead and filled his out before having kids, so he is exempt.
Also, you probably already knew, but it is customary to bestow gifts and appreciation upon any New Orleans natives that happen to be regular acquaintances on Mardi Gras day. Just some trivia that you may not have been aware of.
meredith [email] said at 2:44 PM 02-28-2006: No, but John and I went out to lunch and we told them they were from New Orleans and they gave us extra beads.
brandon [email] said at 3:15 PM 02-28-2006: "For the Fool has said in his heart, there is no God." Thessarinthians 3:16
He knows, Meredith. And he keeps a Big Red Chief Tablet of all of our deeds in a box. IN A BOX. And on judgment day, he shall sort through this box and call for an accounting.
Because of this manner of record-keeping, Judgment Day is going to take a long, long time. Some of the dread will wear out by the time He gets to the "R's" so I'm not worried.
I may not be on St. Charles, but I'm drinking like I am.
brandon [email] said at 5:05 PM 02-28-2006: Then John definitely needs to take those beads back. People from Metairie say they're from Metairie, and they act like it, too. I'm just saying, if you have a cross a bridge to get to some place, you're not from that place. But it's OK. If you want to continue living a LIE. Who am I to judge. God knows. And when you those beads burn against the fair skin of your neck, just think of that as his displeasure reaching across the cosmos in order to slightly heat the plastic wages of deception.
john [email] said at 5:09 PM 02-28-2006: Let me clarify that I am not from Zachary. Have never lived there. Only attended a year of High School there to keep from having to go to Glen Oaks in Baton Rouge. I drove there everyday to go to school, never lived there.
john [email] said at 5:31 PM 02-28-2006: My dad got a P.O. Box in Zachary simply to use it as my address so that I could qualify as a resident to go to school there. Amazingly, it worked. By the time they questioned it, I had already graduated.
brandon [email] said at 5:34 PM 02-28-2006: Yeah. A lot of people in BR still do that to avoid the horrible schools. It's insanely easy - some districts will accept, you know, utility bills from people that just have the same last name as you. Ascension Parish and Livingston have gotten wise to it though, because, sadly enough, their schools are an order of magnitude better than ours. Glen Oaks is not any kind of place anyone needs to be at. Sadly, this describes the majority of BR public schools then and now.
ed [email] said at 12:41 PM 02-28-2006: I plan on going home and drinking a modest amount of bourbon and perhaps watching a DVD. I'm not sure which one, as I have several to choose from. I will go to bed relatively early. I will not be partying it up because tomorrow will be one of my 'leave at 6:30AM/get home at 9PM' days.
