who else loved the Outer Limts? I used to have all of these on VHS, taped back in the era when we thought if you didn't capture some old show on tape you might never see it again... before the dawn of $20 DVD season sets... i just picked up a set of this, i am sort of afraid to watch it. it enthralled me as a kid, especially the harlan ellison episodes "demon with a glass hand" and "soldier" (inspiration for the terminator movies), but i'm scared it will not live up now.

I loved that shit. I few years ago "Cold Hands, Warm Heart" caught me unawares late at night. And, look, it's Shatner, and it's a muppet in a fog machine. But it was pretty freaking eerie, imagining being inside a capsule as this thing rises up from the mists of a hostile planet to do god knows what to you. The music is half the thing. The best things about these old series, even though most of them boil down to monster-of-the-week/a man and his device Sci-fi, is how close they were to old radio plays. There were on such shoe-string budgets, that you practically had to supply the visual component yourself. The new series blew goats. X-Files lite.

This reminded me of "The Cutty Black Sow" episode from the "Tales from the Dark Side" series. If only because of the death-sentence, inevitable demise of the principle quality. Still, the Cutty Black Sow creeps me out.

Shit like this used to be amazing... if cheesy at 1:00 am.

This isn't from that episode. I think this one actually ran on the Monsters series, but I could be wrong. Anyway, TV needs more of this:

Or this one: skip to the end were some pale looking bitch gives birth to a giant grub, that's, presumably reimplanted into a new host.

Never seen it, but there was a pretty good This American Life about Outer Limits conventions, so I know a bit about it.
josh [email] said at 10:44 AM 08-31-2007:
    they have conventions?
woody [email] said at 4:13 PM 08-31-2007:
Wow, that was weird. It was actually about a show called Dark Shadows. I don't know why I got those mixed up. So no, no conventions, no TAL story for you.

what i think may have been a remake in the 90s was the bomb
josh [email] said at 11:57 AM 08-31-2007:
i never saw the 90s one. lots of people say it was good though. i guess brandon doesn't think so.
brandon [email] said at 12:07 PM 08-31-2007:
It was cheesy but in a bad way. And it was overly concerned with this "reptilian aliens are coming to take over" plot that ran through more episodes than the idea was worth. Also, there was this really incredibly bad episode featuring Kirsten Dunst in which aliens transmit horrible "techno music" to earth that turns people's skin to lacquered mother of pearl. At first, everybody freaks out because they think it's a plague - like regular techno music - only the Aliens did it to save the earth's inhabitants from some solar flare or something. The problem with the 90s version, was that it took itself way too seriously, like the X-Files did in the last two seasons.

Absolutely loved them. i got the chills just watching the intro
kiche [email] said at 12:13 PM 08-31-2007:
i'm more familiar with the 90s version.

i liked the 90s version; but it wasn't -great-. the older ones i saw looked better.
josh [email] said at 12:05 PM 11-19-2007:
after watching several of these, i would say that these do not hold up as well as the twilight zone, but they are still pretty good.
