Revenge flavored with surprise or surety?

So when you figure out the person who pulled a prank on you...
And you're ready to start planning your revenge...
Do you try to get definite confirmation,
and reveal that payback is coming?
Or is it better to be sure of your target,
And trade surprise for suspense?

PS: This does not refer to anything associated with anyone here.
PPS: No, really, I promise.

I vote surprise
not enough time for them to implement counter measures

Oh, revenge! My favourite.

You wait until they have forgotten what they did to you, and then you attack in an equally fitting manner. But, as D'Hoffryn states (on "Buffy"), "never go for the kill when you can go for the pain."

But in the short term, leave notes like "I know it was you", and whenever possible, act a little bit like you're about to get your revenge to make them paranoid.

once, i was so sure that it was my one friend who got us on the subsription list (and, subsequently, the bill-collector's list) for "ferrets" magazine that i waited 4 months until they gave me the key to water their plants while they were away and moved all of their underwear to the freezer.

i turned out to be matt's brother that pulled the prank. boy, were they confused.
