misty waters

So we have these magical toilets at work that flush when you get up, I'm sure you've seen them before. Anyway, there is one in particular that every time I go to drop the kids off at the pool, when I lean over to clean my backside it flushes. This forces me to do this kinda crazy dance to avoid a back spray of urine and fecal matter all over my bottom. One would think I would learn and try and avoid this particular toilet but it has become a challenge for me.

I've also heard that almost every male American is familiar with the "Sloan Valve Company" from starring down at the tops of urinals their entire lives, while most women are completely unfamiliar with it.

Dave, stop crapping in the urinials.

sloan makes sinks as well. the kind that turn on when you put your hands underneath them. they're a class act.

my introductionto /worst experience with these toilets happened in a bathroom in the new orleans airport during a particularly horrible case of the runs i was having. that was after an hour taxi ride of having to hold something that was almost unholdable. it was toilet hell.

another mystery that I have about these devilish devices is that as far as I can detect they have no electrical power wired to them. So how do they work? Is it solar powered? water turbines? Science has evolved beyond my ability to comprehend.
josh [email] said at 3:07 PM 12-01-2004:
They are charged by a small pizo that generates current to a battery using the flow of water generated when it is flushed.

The flush works by simply releasing pressure from the valve, which is pressurized (thus why there is no tank needed like in the toilet at your house).

the "Lady P" (HA!) doesn't look bad! I don't really see how it's any better than a regular toilet, however.

The first one, though... what is that, do they have it hanging out, next to the fireplace in a cozy family room?!
dave [email] said at 4:42 PM 12-01-2004:
here's an updated version that might answer your questions. seems you have to get a good lean back going on.

ericanm [email] said at 4:43 PM 12-01-2004:
you pull your pants down around your ankles and sort of slide back so that long thing is in between your knees. you can basically stand up over it which is pretty cool.
myriam [email] said at 4:46 PM 12-01-2004:
i get so grossed out by the idea of my pants touching the floor around the toilet. altho i love peeing in clean public restrooms, i am way too anal to allow my pants to get bunched up between the neck of that thing, right where pee could potentially drip, and the nasty bathroom floor. have you see how dirty the water that they splash around to "clean" those floors is?!? plus people's muddy shoes and pee drips from hoverers and stuff land right there.

If you were wearing a skirt this would be awesome. And if you got some good force built up I think you'd get a pretty clean, straight stream.
josh [email] said at 7:40 PM 12-01-2004:
when these were designed, women did not wear pants.
julie [email] said at 3:17 PM 12-02-2004:
In every country I visited in Southeast Asia, I ran across "American Standard" bathroom fixtures. My favorite was the "American Standard" squat toilet in the airport in Cambodia. The inherent contradictions there were just awesome. American? Standard? I THINK NOT, GOOD SIR!

I would have taken a picture of it, but... you kind of don't want to spend any more time than is absolutely necessary when you're in a squat toilet stall. Plus I think I peed on my shoe a little bit that time. God I hate squat toilets.

BTW... While I was selling plumbing for YOW I came across this legend...
