    Details...

'Sides Miles, 'Trane and Sam Cooke are timeless. And let's not forget the incomparable Kool Moe Dee.

i really love miles davis' "on the corner". of course i haven't heard a lot of his other music.

i've always been afraid that it will be a let down.

Of the four albums I own not a single one has been the least bit disappointing. A couple of weeks ago I picked up his soundtrack to the Louis Malle film Elevator to the Gallows (or Lift to the Scaffold however you wanna translate it.) It's really awesome and I saw the movie this week (it's been re-released for a limited theatrical run) and it was cool being able to put some images with the music I'd been listening to for weeks. What's awesome is the music works on its own and is actually probably a little bit better than the movie it goes with. Kinda like Curtis Mayfield's Super Fly (even though that movie is awesome.)

have you heard on the corner?

it's a bit different than his other stuff.

i've heard parts of miles in the sky and some of his earlier work, and i have to say i was let down in comparison to on the corner.

in fact i would rank on the corner as one of my favorite all time albums.

I have not yet heard On the Corner. I have Kind of Blue, Ascenseur pour l'echaufaud and Birth of the Cool (which I'm not sure even qualifies as an official "album") and now In a Silent Way. I've heard Sketches of Spain and thought that was pretty awesome.
kiche [email] said at 11:32 AM 09-17-2005:
my copy of birth of the cool is now in the gulf of mexico.

you should listen to on the corner. it's something else. i don't know if i'd even term it "jazz". it's brilliant. you should give it a listen.
reggie [email] said at 11:38 AM 09-17-2005:
Also, was On the Corner the first thing you'd heard from him? I just wonder if it makes a difference starting from the later stuff and then going back to earlier stuff.

I'm still learning this stuff anyway, it's pretty fun.

ya know reggie...sometime I should bring my laptop over to your place of residence and just rip CD's from your collection. I've never really listened to any of those artists.

Actually, I wish I could suggest a mix tape trade or something, but I can't imagine any tape i'd make would be worth a damn
