de autobahn

so um, this is my first post ever, but I think it's a good time to post. Partyline has been playing the Netherlands and Germany and I am the only person who can drive a stick in the band and I have been driving this SWEET new car called a ford Mondeo.... but that's not the best part.... the best part is that I am driving this SWEET new rental car on the autobahn & I took the car to 200 kmph..... do you know what that means!?!?!? I drove 125 mph on the fucking autobahn!

it was amazing. the beautiful thing is that people in Germany know how to drive. no one cuts you off. no one stays in the left lane. people who drive slower get the fuck out of your way. when there is no speed limit - yeah they have to have one from time to time - the average speed we did was 160 kmph = 100 mph.

It's been amazing. oh yeah, the shows have been good as well. the Netherlands and Germany RULE!

You've never posted before? Wow. Anyway you guys have fun over there in Euroland, bring me back somethin' like some hot European chick or something.

This seriously sounds like so much fun. I miss driving SO MUCH. For the record, and in case you get the itch when you get back to the States, you can pretty much drive like that through most of the upper plains states. Montana used to have a "as fast as you feel is safe" speed limit, I don't know if they do anymore though. But at least in Colorado you can do that across much of the state. I hit 110 in my little crappy corolla before the wind started pushing me off the read and I looked down and realized how fast I was going. No one else was around to matter.

I was pulled over in 2003 in Wyoming going 79 in a 75. No tickets issued though. I am pretty sure Montana has a speed limit now though.

      well, try saskatchewan then! :)
woody [email] said at 12:45 PM 09-14-2005:
?? One of the stricter provinces for speeding. I got pulled over and got a warning for 8 kph over the limit. Back in Ontario, they wouldn't pull you over for less than 10 or 15 over.
myriam [email] said at 12:47 PM 09-14-2005:
no way! i just figured you could do whatever you want since it's so empty. (or maybe i should have said alberta? which is the emptiest? yukon terr? who knows)
woody [email] said at 12:57 PM 09-14-2005:
Yeah, but the only roads that you'd want to drive that fast on are pretty busy. There are a few exceptions, but in general, if it's remote, the road will not be in good shape. Or it will be heavily used by truckers, with no dedicated passing lane.

But whatever, with my radar detector, I manage 130-170 kph without much worry (on 100-110 highways). I've had the RX-8 since May and not one ticket yet!

You can drive like that on the streets of Philadelphia too.
amanda [email] said at 1:48 PM 09-14-2005:
In Montana, the speed limit used to be "Prudent and Proper." There is indeed a speed limit now, though.

Why the Dakotas have speed limits, I will never understand. It's probably because slowing people down is the only way they can get anyone to stop and spend money in their states.

you're lucky a deer or dog wasn't around, you might be dead!

110 MPH in a Corolla??? I didn't even think that was possible unless you're going downhill. Mine shakes like crazy if go above 95.
myriam [email] said at 3:28 PM 09-14-2005:
It was only 6 months old at the time! But yeah, it was shaking at 110--but because of the wind, that was hard to notice until I clued in. The biggest problem was the car is so damn light and those roads in the plains are raised a bit above the plain, so the wind just cuts straight across the plain and slams directly into the side of the car. Battling that was a bitch (but fun!). Also, there are no deers or dogs on the plains! silly cecil. There's literally NOTHING AROUND. And I mean not even other cars.
cecil [email] said at 3:50 PM 09-14-2005:
...a rabbit... a rock even. It's just that it's very easy to lose control of a Corolla at 110 if any anomaly occurrs on the road, ESPECIALLY because it's so light, ESPECIALLY if it's windy! Man, if I was your father, you would be SO grounded.
amanda [email] said at 6:31 PM 09-14-2005:
I did 110 in Upper Michigan in my '91 Corolla and it sounded like it was about to cross into the 8th dimension, or else trigger some sort of small nuclear explosion.

I need to learn to drive a manual shift.
rick [email] said at 1:28 PM 09-14-2005:
You could learn in an hour. It is not hard; I did not learn until I was 22.
meredith [email] said at 1:41 PM 09-14-2005:
I actually know how. It's just practicing it enough so that I can do it without stalling.
myriam [email] said at 3:00 PM 09-14-2005:
Don't ask John, he won't let you. Bitch.
meredith [email] said at 3:11 PM 09-14-2005:
I drove John's truck once. It was a standard. I lied and said I knew how and drove his drunk ass home. I actually did pretty well until I stalled at a red light and he started making fun of me. Then I told him I hadn't really driven a standard before and he was all impressed.
jake [email] said at 2:57 PM 09-14-2005:
I need to learn this too.
    This week, even.
