"What do you think of the one you call God? Isn't his absence slightly odd? (Maybe he's forgotten you!)" - sung by the Chumba Wumbas, on the Family Guy
So, I'm now a baroness in my Tribal Wars tribe. That's pretty cool, even though I accidentally killed another one of my noblemen yesterday through my own carelessness and a steak of misfortune.
One of my duties as a member of the aristocracy is to answer the questions of my puny minions. Today, I had the opportunity to guide one of my fellow players into the confusing territory of nerd maturity.
Q: I know i'm not strong enough yet, but whats a reasonable amount of points that you should have on your first village, before considering a second one?
A: Invading a village is a natural and normal part of life. And so is battle. Having battle play — from raiding to scouting and from sending diplomatic correspondences to slaughtering entire armies — is a big decision. It involves many feelings and responsibilities.
Choosing to be in an ongoing village occupation is another big decision. There is a lot to consider.
Figuring out when you're ready for village conquest continues through life. People need to make decisions about invasions in their teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond — every time a diplomatic situation develops.
It may seem as though everyone in your point category is taking small villages or plundering resources. This can make you feel that you should be, too. But the truth is that only about half of TW players have ever sent their noblemen on a quest to vanquish an opponent. Far fewer have done so on a regular basis. Many *name withheld for reasons of geekiness and potential espionage* tribe members who have pillaged wish that they had waited.
Your first conquest is a very special one, and you shouldn't feel obligated or pressured to invade until you are confident that you are absolutely ready and able to deal with the potential repercussions.
ed [email] said at 8:36 PM 11-14-2006: Mmmmm.... juicy, delicious steak of misfortune.
Honestly, I have almost no idea what this post is about, other than your having mentioned TW previously. Even more honestly, I remember when TW stood for the old BBS game Trade Wars (later TW2002), and I had a killer script that made me a galactic badass. So I guess my NerdCred extends farther back than yours, but I seem to have lost mine somewhere along the way.
amanda [email] said at 8:41 PM 11-14-2006: JOIN US, ED. World 2, Ed. World 2 calls to you with the sweet siren's song that lured and entrapped Josh and Max. WOOOOORRRRRRLLLLLDDD TWOOOO...
amanda [email] said at 2:51 PM 11-15-2006: It sort of depends on how involved you become with the game. I started checking my first village every so often (three times a day, perhaps, about 5 minutes each time) and wound up obsessive and setting my alarm to wake me up for new onslaughts or to upgrade my village structures.
max [email] said at 9:35 PM 11-14-2006: I had the privelege of reading this in the TW forum. I immediately knew it was solid gold e-literature. I now see it on the front page of killoggs. As I roll my eyes, I still know it's solid gold.
amanda [email] said at 3:55 PM 11-15-2006: When you start an account, you will be placed on a map with X and Y coordinates for your first village. You get 5 days of immunity from attack, during which you will build your village up as much as you can muster.
(mmm...steak of steak of misfortune and muster...)
I think that one only gets 2 chances to be randomly placed on the map before you're stuck with whatever fate throws at you. However, if you are near one of our tribes or stronger allies, I can probably find a place for you.
amanda [email] said at 4:03 PM 11-15-2006: Yep. Many of my tribal uppercrust have killed off weakling players and sent them resources to help them rebuild on the outer edge of the world, away from the tribal clusters. We're a very polite tribe, headed by a Brit.
josh [email] said at 4:51 PM 11-15-2006: when you get on you say amanda here are my coordinates and she'll tell you. also you can see the tribe name when you look at the villages on the map
amanda [email] said at 9:48 PM 11-15-2006: Holy crap. There's some serious urban sprawl happening, there.
I invited you anyway. You're sort of alone in there but that could work to your advantage, since you're very equal in points with your neighbours and didn't wind up smack dab in the middle of supertribes like I did when I started.
If you decide to switch tribes after playing awhile, no big deal. However, reading the FAQ/posts on the forums will help you get started, and it never hurts to be in a million point+ tribe from the get go.
craig [email] said at 12:38 PM 11-15-2006: I was thinking about taking the plunge into the virtual world soon myself. Probably not tribal wars though. Something more sci-fi-ish.
josh [email] said at 1:54 PM 11-15-2006: Anyone who signs up, feel free to use THIS LINK RIGHT HERE, as I will get extra days of premium membership if you make it to 5,000 points or so. A great early birthday present!
woody [email] said at 11:47 AM 11-17-2006: I tried to grab you an XL1S but sadly, it's discontinued. Let me know when you've found a current model. In the meantime, how's about uploading my head?
amanda [email] said at 12:53 PM 11-16-2006: Okay. I invited Ed and Art to the tribe. I don't even remember how you accept the invite if you want it; I think you get mail (not email...TW mail in the top corner) or a report and you click "accept" or something like that.
amanda [email] said at 8:44 AM 11-17-2006: Ha. Yep.
Between this and my internet boy, I may as well meld with the circuitry of my computer and transcend mere corporeal form forever.
I had a nice introductory letter typed up to send you and Art and then lost it due to closing the wrong window on accident, but you've probably realized that your new tribe are pretty much a horde of tasteless-though-friendly dickwads. You guys are used to the phenomenon from Killoggs, but just so you know--almost anything goes and intelligent humour is staunchly appreciated. Just post all animal cock photos in the appropriate forum category and you should be set.
We also like music quite a bit, if you take the time to google search the tribe's name. Most of us are from the forums there.
ed [email] said at 12:52 PM 11-20-2006: I'm out on the edge of the world... in my map, there are maybe 70-100 villages. I have three allies and three NAP dudes. The rest is a sea of red.
ed [email] said at 9:42 PM 11-20-2006: Wrigley's Spearmen Gum?
(a)Man(ther), this game is killing me. First, I'm up at like 3 in the morning building crap. I'm now in a frenzy, trying to follow the consensus advice and get my wall shored up before my protective 5 days elapses. And several times during this evening, the site has been unreachable. I assume this is due to World 4 opening, since all the other sites I visit have had no issues.
I have discovered the joy of raiding abandoned villages for resources (since I was told how to get my troops off their collective asses).
I'm pretty much proud (rightly or wrongly) about the resources I have amassed and built over the last four days. I would post them here, except tribalwars.net is (again) not responding at the moment, so I can't look. I'm sure I've made mistakes (like not knowing how to deploy troops for two days), but I'm at like 15/14/13 in clay/timber/iron. My wall is either 9 or 10. I've got sixty-ish (soon to be eighty-ish) troops, a decent smithy and barracks... I think I'm decently prepared for the boonies-environment I've been handed. No dominant tribes are in my general vicinity.
I'm about to push my village out of my birth canal and into the real (virtual) world. I'm excited, albeit a bit anxious.
josh [email] said at 1:49 PM 11-21-2006: you need to focus on troops more than you are... 60ish troops is not a lot. i don't even try to start a new village unless i have 3000 troops ready to support it.
ed [email] said at 9:24 PM 11-21-2006: Thanks. I have had people tell me from day 1 that resources (timber/clay/iron) were #1. So I concentrated on that. Then, late in the "honeymoon" phase, I was told a wall was tantamount. So I concentrated on that. Now, I hear lots of spears are good.
So I currently stand at 15/14/13 (clay/timber/iron), 14 on the wall, and 140/40/30 (spears/swords/axe). I am also currently building a stable, and upgrading my timber camp to 15.
ed [email] said at 8:30 PM 11-23-2006: I hadda have the stable to get scouts. I feel naked farming without knowing what I'm up against.
I have to upgrade my farm again (I'm within 50 of max population), but am mainly concerned with resource production at this point. (17/16/13)
Building troops is going more slowly. I really need to ramp that up, but everything takes so stinkin' long to build now, it's killing me.
And yes, I upgraded to premium just now, and it's too stinkin' cool. I tell myself that I won't do the same for my World 4 village, but the addiction has set in...
amanda [email] said at 5:26 AM 11-24-2006: I would rather absorb all of you into World 2 and the Electrical Audio tribes, since I think that our two originating websites are fairly similar in humour and interest values, and it would preserve you from having the forums at your other potential tribe bore you to tears.
Josh....Sssss....ssssk! Come to us now! Bask in our various pleasantries of sheep and exotic breadfruits!
ed [email] said at 8:39 PM 11-23-2006: Fook! I was just told I couldn't upgrade my iron because I don't have enough farm! I am at 852 of 854. Where'd all the new people come from in the last 5 minutes?
Farm's next on the list, but it's 40 minutes away. Sigh...
ed [email] said at 11:06 AM 11-24-2006: Ingrates. Isn't it enough that I give them weapons and send them out to attack my neighbors? Eat at THOSE villages, you dolts!
amanda [email] said at 5:15 AM 11-24-2006: If anyone joins and wants to be in EleAud or EleAux, please see me (well...mail me). We have two seats open in EleAud and I know that you Killoggers are a bunch of nerds who won't disappoint me.
Plus? Our forums are more entertaining than any other tribes' could possibly ever be which makes this game significantly more fun.
Also, I'm the the Duchess for Captain Lou Albano's Recording Studio's tribe. That makes me smirk a bit, in a geeky way.
ed [email] said at 4:43 AM 11-25-2006: In three hours, a workshop shall be MINE. God, I'm pathetic. I woke up at 4:30 to collect the spoils from rading neighboring villages and begin a workshop and to upgrade my wall.
