So Ya'll Wanna Hear New Orleans?

When I think of New Orleans, these sounds jump into my head:

Ultimate Rebirth Brass Band
Rebirth Brass Band

Look-Ka Py Py
The Meters

Rock and Roll Gumbo
Professor Longhair

Where there's Smoke, There's Fire
Buckwheat Zydeco

The Wild Tchoupitoulas
The Wild Tchoupitoulas

What does your city sound like to you? (In five albums or less.) All albums are available on the infernal iTunes for sampling or purchasing. (No, I don't know how to post links, sounds, or any of that other shit.)

P.S. If this music doesn't get your ass moving in your seat then you are either dead, really white or really, really northern, or all of the above.

Pretty amazing dude. My little list wasn't meant to be comprehensive nor exhaustive, but only illustrative of those New Orleans acts that jump into my head upon thinking about the city. I mean, there are thousands upon thousands of amazing artists that I could throw up there. The list is neverending.

Oh really? I think someone needs to punch you in the skull and fill the resulting hole with The Meters.

Just Kidding. Really though, The Cash Money boys are pretty much the face of modern New Orleans. No Limit and Master P used to hold the title but Master P turning into a sniviling iceskating pussy pretty much did him in.

      Fiiiyah, on the bunghole!

Seriously, and sadly enough, there are few songs that evoke South Florida (minus The Keys) - and NONE that evoke Ft. Lauderdale.

        "Welcome To Miami"
        The Theme From "Miami Vice"
        "Smuggler's Blues"

Do any others actually evoke the ambience of the Tip Of America's Wang?

        Nah, notsonuch.

Then there are the people (not just musicians either) who spent time in NOLA and came out a little bit . . . different.
rick [email] said at 11:19 AM 01-27-2006:
I saw a great performance by the Wild Tchoupitoulas once (and I do not know who the opening band was but they were great also) but oddly enough, it was at the LSU Union Theatre and not in New Orleans.
