I am also looking to make new friends here, or show me around. Email me at breckany@gmail.com if you aren't a psychotic serial killer. anything else may suffice.

kate [email] said at 7:07 PM 02-07-2006: here are some more tips from my awesome friend angelo...he hosts a radio program called, 'hooray for tuesday' and works the box office at the doug fir, and knows a lot of people...and wrote this up for you...
As for coffee, everyone is gaga about Stumptown Roasters (I don't use coffee any more, but when I did I liked Stumptown). There's a bunch of places that carry it, but the main spots are on SE 32nd and Belmont, SE 44th and Division, and SW 3rd and Pine. A good way to meet people (especially musically oriented people) is by subscribing to the Pdx-Pop e-list. To do so, just send an email to pdx-pop@googlegroups.com and tell them you wanna subscribe. I have found this to be an invaluable resource in the what's up in Portland, OR and you can cancel at any time if its not your cup of tea. Most people who aren't gazillionaires prefer to live in SE or NE Portland. SW is mostly businesses, and NW is mostly shops and the aristocrats. If I had a better idea of what a person was into, I might be able to suggest more. I hope this helps some. Portland is a pretty easy town to navigate. Burnside divides North and South, and the Willamette River divides East and West. The "5th Quadrant" or North Portland is actually in the northwestern part of NE Portland (if htis makes anysense). It's nice there, but far from downtown. On the North side of the Columbia River is Vancouver, Washington, which I don't highly recommend, but it has its nice parts, I suppose. The Mercury and Willamette Week are good weekly publications that list shows, arts, and theatre, etc. This is a good week to be in Portland as the 7 weeks of rain has finally let up and it is actually sunny outside. The best time of year is yet to come. I hope this helps some.
Best,
Angelo!
