when it's springtime in alaska it's 40 below

mcdonald's is now open, which means i can get an egg & cheese biscuit if i want to...

gotta drive brad to a doctor's appointment at 8.

been playing with google earth all night and listening to schubert's unfinished symphony over and over real loud on headphones. there's this one part of it that really creeps me out and always has. it scares me the same way slayer and danzig scared me when i was 13.

kinda nice.

me and elise are driving up to cape cod tomorrow for the weekend. gonna go to the edward gorey house and stay in some weird little bed & breakfast near the beach.

i've been way over doing it the last couple weeks, and i think i'm slowly starting to lose my mind, so this should be nice. i haven't seen many daylight hours in general for most of 2005...

spx and crafty went really well. i got to meet a lot of fun people. thanks for stopping by if you did and are reading this. i apologize for being so out of it...

and i really was. i was totally delerious. barely standing. for both...

i'm glad it's all over with...

some stuff:

  • i have some shirts left. some "I hate fappy the seal" shirts and some monster shirts that glow in tdark. have a few dirtfarm books left, a lot of posters, & a whole lot of postcards & stickers. I'll post all that stuff once I can get pictures and a count of what all is left if you guys want to order any of it. may do that later today...

  • also still thinking about making the new orleans comic i did into a poster. i don't really want to make it into a shirt, but i'm going to look into getting large screenprinted posters made of it. is anyone still interested in getting one? i held out on doing this mainly cos i had so much stuff to do already for crafty and spx, but also because i wasn't sure about what i would do with the money from them. i talked to my mom last night and she asked if i would consider putting a fun together for my brother (who literally lost everything he owned). so i'm thinking i will do that so long as people are still interested in the posters...

  • thanks for the birthday wishes. sorry i didn't respond the day of.

  • i also haven't posted this week's comic yet cos i don't like it that much. i'll post it in a few days when i'm not bitter about it not coming out the way i would have liked it to...

  • i'm also planning on posting the few killoggs heads i have drawn later today. i told josh i'd do it last night, but the comic was so annoying that i didn't feel like being at work any longer to scan the heads. i don't have many of them. cam, denman, woody, nelson, crystal? i may have a few others. i don't remember. i drew them a couple months ago, but never got around to scanning them. i'll try to do some more soon. the heads get harder and harder to do the more stuff i have to draw in general...

  • i'm gonna be illustrating another book for wil sometime this month, and my big project is going to be working on the galaxy hut. they've been really patient with me, which i'm really thankful for.

  • if all goes as planned, i'm going to be building an interactive mural across one half of the bar, and will have permanent gallery space on the other half. i'm envisioning building a cameraless photo booth with interchangeable backgrounds (like peewee's picture phone), some interactive paintings with signs and magnets and whatnot, and hopefully some penny arcade type games if i can figure out how to build them. i need to buy a jigsaw very soon.

that's what i got for now. i wish i had time to post more. i got a lot of stories to tell and no time to tell them.

hope everyone is well...

think i'm gonna go for that bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit now.

I would love to buy a poster. I am sorry about your brother.
jake [email] said at 11:18 AM 10-06-2005:
Ben, a list just for you:
1. Happy Birthday also! Sorry I didn't say so in the post at the time!
2. Sorry about your brother and I would buy a poster for that (or any) cause.
3. I would buy the NO comic as a poster for many other people too possibly.
4. Scanning heads...don't be bringing Munish into this tea-room until you are ready because he and I will go nuts. Sort of like Art and Woody are but with less flirting.
5. Dibs on one of the books dibs on one of the books dibs on one of the books...
6. Did I say less flirting? I meant lots lots more.
denman [email] said at 12:19 PM 10-06-2005:
You mean the one that depicts the storm itself? Yes, I would love to buy a poster of that.
Bendependent [email] said at 12:25 PM 10-06-2005:
any advice on where to get them printed?
jake [email] said at 4:53 PM 10-06-2005:
    I would suggest Cafepress.
I know it has a bad rep for quality vs. price, but the stuff itself is good, and I think you could sell a lot if you didn't have to deal with manufacture and distribution.

I don't know if they have weird proprietary deals for graphic designs though.

When It's Springtime In Alaska

I mushed from Port Barren through a blizzard of snow
Been out prospecting for two years or so
Pulled into Fairbanks the city was a boon
So I took a little stroll to the Red Dog Saloon
As I walked in the door the music was clear
The prettiest voice I had heard in two years
The song she was singin' made a man's blood run cold
When it's springtime in Alaska it's forty below
(When it's springtime in Alaska it's forty below)

It was red headed Lil who was singin' so sweet
I reached down and took the snowpacks off my feet
I reached for the gal who was singin' the tune
We did the Escimo hop all around the saloon
Where the cariboo crawl and the grizzly bear hug we did our dance on a Kodiac rug
The song she kept singing made a man's blood run cold
When it's springtime in Alaska it's forty below
[ banjo ]
I was as innocent as I could be I didn't know Lil was big Ed's wife to be
He took out his knife and he gave it a throw
When it's springtime in Alaska I'll be six feet below
(When it's springtime in Alaska he'll be six feet below)

I've been to the edward gorey house, it's very beautiful. You cant explore it as much as I would have wanted to, though.

It also took us 14 hours to get there. (mostly traffic in NY and Conn).
