Ramblin' Round

Anyone want to drive to Bethlehem, PA with me this weekend to see Ramblin' Jack Elliot play? It's an all day Woody Guthrie tribute. Kinda expensive, but it looks fun, especially cos it looks like it's in a weird little beach town...

here's a link to the details

Crackhead Chris is also coming in town this weekend. I'm not sure he'll want to go to this, but I think I'm gonna go regardless. If nothing else, it'll be fun to put a TV in the van with video games and a DVD player and just mess around all day. Van road trips are the best.

If enough people want to go (and Chris - which I kinda tend to doubt will be the case), I would even consider camping up there on Saturday and coming back on Sunday (in time for Sonny's show). If not, I'll just leave Saturday morning and come back late that night...

There is no way I could get in on that trip to Montreal could I?

I've been wanting to go back FOREVER and would rather not go alone...

weird. it's on "Sand Island", wherever that is...

What's the real deal on Bethlehem,PA?

Maybe I should just find out for myself...

dying steel town, i would guess from the name.

        SUPER STEEL.

it was the home of bethlehem steel, which built like half of america (along with US Steel which was based in pittsburgh). it's sort of a quirky dying industrial town--faded glory, that kind of thing. it has some of the same feeling that i love about pittsburgh, but it is a smaller, less active city. it is interesting. i'm guessing "sand island" is a strip of sand in the middle of the river, and it'll probably be surrounded by chunks of ice by that point. it's a river town. i was on a sand bar island in the middle of a river in pittsburgh in january, and it was something else. it'll be an interesting trip for you, but not as a beach town!

I actually really like that song. That and Downeaster Alexa.

Oh, I think Allentown is an awesome song. As well as many other Billy Joel songs. Mostly his earlier stuff. Allentown may actually be one of - if not the - last songs in his catalog I actually liked.

Yup. It was on the last album BJ put out that didn't totally reek - The Nylon Curtain.
